Caramel Apple Dessert Made Over Recipe

Ingredients

  • 45 Reduced Fat NILLA Wafers, finely crushed (about 1-1/2 cups)
  • 1/4 cup soft margarine, melted
  • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) fat-free cream cheese, softened
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar substitute
  • 3-1/4 cups cold fat-free milk, divided
  • 1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Sugar Free Whipped Topping, thawed, divided
  • 2 pkg. (1 oz. each) vanilla fat-free sugar-free instant pudding mix
  • 1/2 cup sugar-free caramel ice cream topping, divided
  • each red and green apple, chopped
  • 1/4 cup salted peanuts, chopped

Instructions

  • Mix  wafer crumbs and margarine; press onto bottom of 13x9-inch pan. Beat cream cheese, sugar substitute and 1/4 cup milk with mixer until well blended. Stir in 1 cup COOL WHIP; spread over crust.
  • Beat  pudding mixes and remaining milk with whisk 2 min. Stir in 1/4 cup caramel topping. Spoon over cream cheese layer; top with remaining COOL WHIP.
  • Refrigerate  8 hours or until firm. Top with apples, nuts and remaining caramel topping just before serving.

Makeover - How We Did ItWe took a favorite recipe and made some simple changes that will save you 140 calories and 9 grams of fat, including 6.5 grams of saturated fat, per serving. We reduced the amount of NILLA Wafers and used margarine instead of butter. In addition, we used fat-free milk, COOL WHIP Sugar Free Whipped Topping, vanilla fat-free sugar-free instant pudding mix and sugar-free caramel ice cream topping instead of full-fat products. These small changes make this dessert better for you without sacrificing the flavor.

Keep Apples from Turning BrownAfter cutting the apples, minimize browning by dipping them in 1 cup water mixed with 1 Tbsp. lemon juice before adding to dessert.
